SUMMARY OF POSITION
Performs skilled groundskeeping, sprinkler design, installation, repair and maintenance; landscaping; snowplowing; and equipment construction and repair work involved in the maintenance of school grounds, playgrounds, athletic fields and landscaped areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operate tractor, dump truck, bucket truck, large power lawn mower, skiploader and other larger motorized equipment to maintain lawn and other landscaped and grounds areas.
Perform minor and major adjustments, service and repair on assigned grounds equipment.
Mow large lawns; trim shrubs, hedges, and trees, and edges lawns and borders.
Design, layout and install irrigation sprinkler systems; inspect and maintain irrigation sprinkler systems to assure proper operating conditions. Repair and make minor adjustments as necessary.
Design, layout and maintain athletic fields.
Perform various concrete work; construct or modify various concrete structures; construct sandboxes and other related concrete structures.
Install, repair and maintain playground equipment.
Conduct monthly safety inspections on playground equipment and related tools and equipment.
Perform asphalt repair work as necessary.
Install, repair and maintain chain link fences.
Perform lead duties and assign work on various major projects requiring work direction and guidance as assigned.
Order and obtain supplies and materials as needed.
Operate a variety of tools and equipment utilized in groundskeeping and gardening work such as mower, power sweeper, van loader, backhoe, grader, rototiller, jackhammer, cement mixer, spray equipment, saws and various small hand and power tools
Operate equipment necessary to perform snow removal duties.
Perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK CONTACTS
Frequent contact with certificated personnel, students, and other District personnel. Limited contact with parents.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in propagating, cultivating, pruning and caring for plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns; knowledge of chemicals used in grounds maintenance; knowledge in the design, lay out and installation of irrigation systems; knowledge of the repair and replacement of irrigation systems; knowledge of the routine maintenance and repair of grounds maintenance equipment; knowledge of constructing, maintaining and inspecting playground equipment; knowledge of snow removal equipment and procedures
ABILITY TO
Plan and organize work schedule; maintain flexibility in work schedule.
Perform skilled grounds maintenance and landscaping work.
Operate truck, large power lawn mower, tractor, skiploader, backhoe, jackhammer, cement mixer, snow auger, snow blower, plow and other large motorized equipment.
Operate hand and power tools common to the work.
Work in an outdoor environment, subject to adverse weather conditions.
Perform continuous lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, and climbing.
Lift 50 pounds from ground level to waist area.
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods.
Maintain good physical condition.
Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed independently requiring some measure of initiative under the general supervision of the Director of Building and Site Maintenance who, in cooperation with the Site Principal(s), will annually evaluate the Groundsperson's performance.

Work involves exposure to outdoor environment, adverse weather conditions, fumes, chemicals, and other related hazards; significant standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Minimum three (3) years progressively responsible experience in grounds maintenance, sprinkler installation and repair, landscaping, snowplowing and equipment construction and repair work. High school graduation or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Possession of and ability to maintain a Nevada's driver's license; must be available to work flexible schedule for snow plowing, including nights and weekends. Successfully pass comprehensive physical examination.

Strength, dexterity, and coordination to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods. Sedentary to heavy exertion of force involving 10-25 pounds frequently with up to 50 pounds occasionally. May involve negligible up to significant stand/walk/push/pull/carry. May involve climbing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Mobility to work in a typical classroom setting and use standard classroom equipment. The ability to interact professionally, communicates effectively, and exchange information accurately with all internal and external members of the school community.

EMPLOYEE PUNCTUALITY AND APPEARANCE
In order for DCSD schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave. Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator. All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of DCSD and is appropriate for their position.
