General Description:
Under the supervision of the Shipping Supervisor, the Shipping Clerk is responsible for preparing and packing items for shipment, addressing, stamping and shipping material, and arranging for the pickup of orders from various freight companies.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the final assembly of products prior to shipping.
2. Responsible for ensuring all products are packed appropriately in order to prevent damage during shipment.
3. Conducts a final quality check on products prior to order being shipped.
4. Uses department equipment and hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
5. Works closely with the Shipping Supervisor to ensure that scheduled orders go out on the planned date.
6. Data entry of shipping details into various shipping systems in an efficient and accurate manner.
7. Responsible for monitoring and using a cardboard baler.
8. Cover the receiving department during absences.
9. Conduct weekly manual inventory/shortage report for the shipping department.
10. Report any errors or safety issues that require correction to the attention of the supervisor.
Requirements:
1. Must have previous experience working in a manufacturing and/or laborer position.
2. Ability to gain appropriate product knowledge, and understanding of company policies and procedures in a reasonable amount of time.
3. Must be computer literate or have the aptitude to learn and effectively operate the shipping system and other department systems.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
5. Must be accurate and detail oriented with effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to remain calm and work well under pressure. Reliability, flexibility and solid judgment are a must.
7. Must possess a reasonable degree of hand/eye coordination in order to effectively utilize tools required for the job. Ability to learn and remember part names, and part numbers.
8. Ability to operate various hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
9. Physical ability to lift up to 70 lb., push a cart weighing up to 1,000 lb., and work extended hours in a standing position.
