About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We're doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Staff Industrial Engineer

Redwood Materials is seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic Layout Design Engineer to develop layout designs for new and expanded manufacturing lines. This role requires a strong understanding of Industrial Engineering principles and proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software. Problem-solving through first principles analysis and effective design optimization are essential skills.

The team is responsible for creating factory designs that facilitate seamless integration between production, material flow, construction, and facilities teams. We value innovation and expect candidates to understand high-level factory objectives and collaborate extensively with internal and external teams to ensure the overall factory design meets Redwood's goals.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a challenging, dynamic environment, working with a dedicated, agile team on ambitious projects across industries. Attention to detail, analytical skills, organization, and a team-oriented mindset are crucial. The candidate should approach ambiguous problems from a systems perspective and use logical reasoning to develop models that optimize factory design.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to optimize space for production lines and support functions.
  2. Collaborate with process, manufacturing, operations, and infrastructure teams to establish efficient flow paths and appropriate aisle sizing.
  3. Conduct data-driven analyses to resolve space utilization conflicts and facilitate stakeholder discussions.
  4. Support factory layout decision-making by providing relevant data and insights.
  5. Design layouts for production support areas to improve safety, density, and flow.
  6. Gather input from internal teams to understand evolving building requirements and capacity needs.
  7. Work with external vendors to define installation, operation, and maintenance requirements for equipment.
  8. Use Revit and 3D modeling software to visualize and allocate space in three dimensions.
  9. Develop and evaluate factory layout concepts, considering tradeoffs and impacts.
  10. Present layout progress to the executive team during steering meetings.
  11. Manage schedules and track milestones for space allocations aligned with project targets.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Over 5 years of engineering experience focused on layout development.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience analyzing and optimizing factory, production line, or warehouse designs.
  • Ability to develop innovative, strategic solutions for complex systems challenges.
  • Comfort working with ambiguous problems and finding effective resolutions.
  • Strong conflict management and objective thinking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A passion for sustainability and making a positive impact!
