General Engineer (Carpenter)

Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain all building structures including framing, doors, drywall, ceilings, concrete, tile, paint, wallpaper, cabinetmaking and upholstery to insure an effective operation.
  • Ability to act independently while analyzing data drawing conclusions from written and computer generated materials.
  • Remain calm and alert, especially during emergency situations, and/or heavy hotel activity, serving as a role model for other employees, Make decisions and take action based on previous experience and good judgment, sometimes revising procedures to accommodate unusual situations.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Minimum of 5 years commercial experience to include framing (lay-out & install), suspended ceiling, cabinetry & drywall.
  • Hotel experience a plus.
  • Responsible for designing, building, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using different types of materials including wood and steel. Prepare the layout of the project.
  • Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions.
  • Select materials.
  • Work with blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
  • Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall. Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures. Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
  • Check work along the way to ensure it's up to code and specifications. Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
  • Work with prefabricated buildings. Install cabinets and molding.
  • Create structures for pouring concrete.
  • Erect scaffolding. Build tunnel bracing.
  • Build concrete forms for tunnel or sewer construction project.
  • Replace ceiling tiles and doors.
  • Repair or build furniture. Install partitions, doors.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Five years commercial work preferred; Hotel experience is a plus.
  • As a pre-requisite to be employed in the property operations department at GSR, you must obtain the required OSHA training (10 or 30) within 15 days of being hired.
  • Experience in commercial carpentry that includes metal framing, drywall, drop ceilings, cement forming and reinforcement.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must be 21 years of age.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance visions, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
