TITLE I FAMILY ENGAGEMENT MENTOR
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Title I Director while receiving direction/guidance from the Accountability/FACE Specialist, the Family Engagement Mentor will work with Title I sites to increase family engagement in the education of their children; support school staff in their work with children, families, and the surrounding school community; develop, coordinate, and implement various programs and activities related to the needs of school sites, children, and families; support and meet program goals and objectives in the areas of family and community engagement and education. Incumbent performs related work as required.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists school-site and district departments in planning and implementing family and community engagement programs; trains sites, which will include both classified and certified staff, on authentic family engagement strategies; supports site staff to promote education support programs and provide on-going channels of communication for participants, families, and the community; assists sites to develop and conduct family education workshops and resource presentations; assists in the participation of local business communities in identifying and developing programs. Assists the Accountability/FACE Specialist in providing teacher professional learning opportunities when applicable. Participates in school site family engagement events.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

  1. Equivalent to a two year degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on education, business administration, management, human development and Family Studies, or a related field;
AND
  1. Minimum of Two (2) years' experience working with parents and/or staff in a school setting or community

Knowledge of: Coaching adults, school and district organizational structure and functioning, family and/or community engagement, district and community resources as related to the position.

Skill at: Communicating effectively with education personnel, families, and various agencies and programs; organization; recognizing and appreciating cultural differences and maintaining respect for culturally diverse backgrounds; participating in and conducting meetings; problem solving; maintaining confidentiality of information and accurate records; interpreting and explaining district policies and procedures as they relate to the position; preparing and giving accurate written and/or oral reports and reviewing and interpreting the reports of others; and maintaining constructive relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Special Considerations: Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule that may include attending evening school events.

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. View the salary schedules here.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
