Laboratory Technician 1

The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking applications for a Laboratory Technician 1 in the Physiology and Cell Biology department. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This position will be responsible for assisting with the research needs of the investigators, including mouse husbandry, genotyping, and organizing breeding schemes, assisting in the purchasing, cataloging, and maintenance of reagent inventory. This position will assist with experiments by preparing solutions, reagents, and performing common laboratory duties to ensure research compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA extraction)
  • Experience in experimental techniques, including patch-clamp electrophysiology, light microscopy, and surgery are a plus

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 25

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
