Senior Engineer II - Substation Design

Location: Reno, NV (onsite)

High preference for candidates with a PE license and 6 years experience; consider candidates with 8 years experience without PE.

Responsibilities

• Provides comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, ensuring the facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations. Leads functional teams and provides technical oversight in performing all phases of projects.
• Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs with no supervision and guidance.
• Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections.
• Provides coordination and communication with other departments in completing procurement tasks on projects with no supervision or guidance.
• Assists and guides other departments in the solution of non‑standard substation design problems.
• Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified.
• Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned.
• Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited school.
• 8 years industry experience as a practicing engineer and must be a licensed PE; if no PE license, must have 10+ years as a practicing engineer.
• Demonstrated knowledge of substation/control engineering principals and other phases of engineering.
• Expertise in cost control, budgets, finance, and accounting with technical experiences in cost analysis.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with company personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies.
• Multi‑tasking, leadership, research, analysis, project management, problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
