Residential Electrical and Systems Engineer

Overview

Holm Electric is seeking a Residential Electrical and Systems Engineer to join our growing team in-office at our headquarters (this is not a remote position).

This role is focused on engineering residential electrical infrastructure and equipment connections - from service and panel layouts to load calculations, lighting, HVAC, generators, and integrated technology systems. The ideal candidate is motivated, detail-oriented, and has the desire to learn, grow, and step into leadership.

You'll collaborate with project managers, installers, and designers to create accurate, code-compliant engineering documents that guide the successful execution of residential projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer residential electrical infrastructure, including service entrances, panels, subpanels, branch circuits, and grounding systems.
  • Perform load calculations, short-circuit studies, and equipment sizing to ensure code compliance and system reliability.
  • Engineer and document equipment connections for lighting, HVAC, appliances, backup generators, and integrated home technology.
  • Develop construction drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software.
  • Coordinate with project managers, sales, and field teams to ensure designs are buildable and efficient.
  • Apply NEC, local codes, and industry standards to all engineering work.
  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
  • Stay current on residential technologies and prepare for advancement into leadership roles.
  • Work daily from the office to ensure strong collaboration across departments.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent U.S. design experience).
  • 2-5 years of experience in electrical design/engineering (residential or light commercial focus preferred).
  • Proficiency in load calculations, panel scheduling, and single-line diagram development.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and local electrical codes.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with residential systems such as generators, lighting control, networking, and AV integration is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Motivated to grow into a leadership role.
