Geotechnical Engineer
Lumos & Associates is looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with a strong focus on field data collection, laboratory testing, and technical report writing. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working both in the field and in the lab, and who can translate data into actionable engineering insights. This position requires a Professional Civil Engineer license in Nevada and/or California, or the ability to obtain reciprocity for a Nevada license within 6 months.
This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys being outdoors, solving problems, and taking a hands-on approach to science and engineering. You will collect and test soils and materials, oversee testing results, assist with site investigations, and ensure that every project starts on solid ground, both literally and figuratively.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform field investigations and geotechnical testing, including soil sampling, borehole drilling, and laboratory analysis.
- Analyze geotechnical data to assess soil and rock mechanics, groundwater conditions, and potential geohazards.
- Operate and maintain geotechnical testing equipment, including nuclear density gauges.
- Conduct laboratory testing of soil, aggregate, and other geotechnical.
- Analyze field and lab data to support geotechnical evaluations and design recommendations.
- Prepare clear, detailed, and technically sound geotechnical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure all testing and reporting comply with project specifications and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with project engineers, construction teams, and clients to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Reviews the accuracy of geotechnical reports and makes necessary corrections.
- Mentor and coach staff to achieve optimal job performance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with emphasis in Civil Engineering, environmental science, or a related field preferred.
- Five years of progressive geotechnical or environmental fieldwork experience or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months.
- NAQTC Soil Sampling and Density and Nuclear Guage Operation Certification, preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of soil classification, sampling techniques, and laboratory testing procedures.
- Proficiency in geotechnical investigation techniques and analysis tools.
- Experience with geotechnical lab testing procedures and standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions and be physically capable of navigating rugged terrain for the purpose of performing the duties outlined above.
- Ability to work hours necessary to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines.
- Computer proficiency with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook).
- Valid driver license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.
