Job Summary:

The team seeks positive, innovative, accountable leaders with a business and customer-focused mindset. We are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to support a Department of Defense program.
Under direction from the Director of Quality, this candidate will serve as a liaison between the various program functions and the Supplier Quality Assurance group coordinating with the program team and suppliers to meet program needs. Candidate will assist various management, staff, customers, suppliers and partners with initiatives to re-engineer processes and methods to ensure compliance to customer contractual requirements and promote continuous improvement initiatives in the areas of cost, efficiency, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction. This candidate will utilize Quality Engineering methods to optimize quality requirements on both purchase documents and work instructions to create and flow down inspection requirements, drive corrective actions and ensure continuous improvement with the overall goal of ensuring supplier and internal manufacturing compliance with contractual requirements, and identifying and controlling sources of variation which may be detrimental to program quality, cost, and schedule targets. They will do this by:
- Establishing appropriate process control thresholds and pass-fail criteria
- Collaborating with suppliers, manufacturing and design engineering to develop product designs that mitigate potential defect sources
- Collaborating with supplier and manufacturing engineering to mitigate potential process defects
- Identifying and incorporating appropriate inspection methods into supplier and manufacturing work instructions
- Leading root cause, corrective and preventive action investigations/ decisions/ validations, actions, integration tasks
Responsibilities: Performance of the Quality Engineer role is inclusive of tasks identified below, with minimal supervision.
1. Overall Quality Management to include:
- Ensure appropriate flow down of program Quality Requirements to suppliers and internal manufacturing work instructions
- Conduct/coordinate process and product evaluations and assessments.
- Conduct supplier and internal source surveillance, inspections and Hardware Acceptance Reviews (HARs)
- Managing databases and associated key quality metrics & associated quality trends
- Drive supplier and internal Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations
- Delivering effective methods and initiating manufacturing and inspection processes improvements that will drive and improve overall quality performance.
- Participate, review and ensure successful First Article Inspection (FAI) Reports
- Support supplier and internal program reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR, PRR, etc.)
2. Support Program activities to include:
- Managing business processes to measure and improve quality performance and update/improve departmental procedures as required.
- Support program status and performance reviews
- Support internal and external audits
- Collaborate with leaders from various functions to assure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Other related job duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications:Experience: Required: • Minimum of ten (10) years of quality engineering experience which include five (5) years of managing DOD propulsion related programs
• Direct experience as the Quality Engineer for large development programs
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience working production control and material planning for programs in the prototyping, design, and development portion of the product life cycle
• Experience supporting Quality for Department of Defense (DoD) programs for the U.S. Government
• Experience across various NC tracking systems to include TIP QA or similar tools.
• Experience briefing program teams, executive management and customers on production plan status, risks, and future plans Preferred:
• Experience working Missile Defense Agency programs with MAP/PMAP requirements
• Experience with AS9100 and DCMA standards
• Demonstrated expertise in lean and six sigma principles
Education:Required: Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field
Preferred: Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field Skills:
Required: • Proven critical thinking ability applied to understanding and solving problems quickly and thoroughly particularly as related to process non-conformances
• Evaluation and Auditing of manufacturing and inspection processes
• Knowledge of MDA Assurance Provisions (MAP), and MDA Parts, Materials, and Processes Mission Assurance Plan (PMAP)
• Ability to multi-task in a highly collaborative team environment.
• Possess excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on verbal and written communication.
• Experience working to identify and drive systemic root cause and corrective action utilizing quantitative, qualitative analytical capabilities to communicate and influence others in a concise, data driven manner
• Experience with AS9100, AS9102, ISO 9001
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision while coordinating initiatives across multiple functional organizations
• Experience in engaging with and representing the function with customers (DCMA, Program Office)
• Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
• Non-Destructive Inspection/Non-Destructive Testing of Solid Propellants Preferred:
• Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification
• Experience with chairing Material Review Board (MRB) and NCM activities Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Familiarity and/or experience with Lean Enterprise Institute (or equivalent) principles involving manufacturing, quality, or supply chain management
• Experience in using Integrated Program Management Tools
• Involvement and experience in Lean Manufacturing
• Lean Certification
Other: Required: • Must be able to travel 25% of the time
• Must have ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship) Preferred:
• Currently holds an active DoD Secret Clearance
